Pushing ahead – the team giving their all at a crossroads

Betis and Real Sociedad are two of the most entertaining team of la Liga. For this reason, fans were expecting not only a great match but lots of goals as well. Throughout the entire exciting match, the team was pushing ahead towards their own greater goal.

Subsequently, Betis coach Quique Setien chose to rest several starters ahead of the upcoming match away to Valencia. This game could prove be a key match for the season. On the other side, Real Sociedad had to cope with a lot of injuries that forced Mr. Eusebio to change the usual starting 11. The away team got off to a better start but the first big chance arrived at 37 minutes into the game. Cristian Tello was one on one with the keeper and took a shot. However, Miguel Angel Moya, playing his first match for Sociedad after joining from Atletico Madrid to step in for the injured Gero Rulli, made an incredible save.

Anxious moments

In the second half, Betis started pushing harder, knowing that a win would increase the chances to qualify for the Europa League. Again Tello, this time from outside the box, tried to score. However, Moya made probably the best save of the day, deflecting the ball that was supposed to finish in the top left corner of the net. Tired, Tello had to leave the pitch and with the best player out, Betis wasn’t the same force to be reckoned with as before. Real Sociedad sensed right away that it was the best moment to try to win the match and start pushing. Incredibly, the biggest chance for the away team came when keeper Antonio Adan tried to dribble-pass the striker and nearly gave the ball to Oyarzabal who tried to tackle to him, luckily the Betis keeper was able to clear the box.

On the road to Europa League

The match finished in a draw that didn’t help either of the teams. Betis is now 9th but both Eibar and Girona won, so the road towards the Europa League has grown a little longer again. This weekend’s matches will be decisive, with Girona playing against Villareal. Betis is playing away at Valencia. Winning will be crucial for the team of Quique Setien to keep the dream of the team alive. Stay tuned for further updates!
